Our Story

88 Years at the Foot of Main Street

Red's Eats has been serving Wiscasset for nearly nine decades, right at the foot of Main Street on Route 1, beneath a towering Siberian elm overlooking the tidal Sheepscot River. Allan “Red” Gagnon opened the stand in 1938, and it's occupied its landmark spot at the intersection of Water and Main since 1954.

Along the way, the restaurant changed hands a few times before Allen Gagnon took it over and built it into what it is today, guided by one simple rule: “Give people the freshest food… and plenty of it.” As Allen liked to say, “You can feed anyone once, but feed them twice and you're doing something right!”

Allen passed the business to his four children — David, Debbie, Cindy & Joe Gagnon — who run it today, with grandchildren pitching in every summer. Staff loyalty runs deep: Shannon Moody has been part of the Red's family for 28 years. In memory of Allen W. Gagnon (1936–2008).
